I ♥ books!

"Outside of a dog, book is man's best friend.
Inside of a dog it's too dark to read."
~Groucho Marx

It's been few days already since our PC was repaired and came back along with all the data on it(oh happiness! ^____^) My uncle fixed it - when we had it back dad said that everything is just like before and he changed one thing only with a newer version. I wondered what program he changed when I turned it on...
Well, it was the operating system XD So now we're with XP. I'll kind of miss our old Windows 2000 Professional with it's sturdy appearence. Strange it may sound but right now the edges and icons of xp annoy me little ^^''
Anyway, all the data was saved along with my pc diary which a wanted back so badly for one reason only - it had my book list for the year. I stated some time ago some impossible goals and one of them was reading 100 books for one year - I started this at 17th of March but I think it's not that early to present it now. I made it halfway which is not that bad after all. So here is the list of the books I read this year - rereadings do count while manga volumes and graphic novels do not (obviously as I have another list for them, despite MAL trying to ruin it). Poetry doesn't count too, although I read quite a lot this year as we studied many poets - and I really loved most of it.
I tried finding the original (or the English) titles of the books but I'm not absolutely sure for some. Hmm... so the number of lil hearts (from 0 to 4) expresses my personal opinion for the book, the (r) stands for rereading and the (n) for a newly read book; and some even have a comment in italic, wow. Enough bla bla now, the list finally comes:

1.♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ Small gods - Terry Pratchet (n) This is my dad's fav book of the seires and I have to say I love it too.... but still there wasn't enough DEATH there

4. ♥ ♥♥ Bay Ganyo - Aleko Konstantinov (along with few more feuilletons) (r)
5. ♥ Warcraft - The lord of the clans - Christie Golden (n) With risk to be killed by army of Wow fans, I'd say the story and style were rather mediocre. I wanted to read the story of Medivh (?) but this was the only Wow book left.
6. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥Johnny and the Dead - Terry Pratchett(n)
7. ♥ Say cheese and die - R.L.Stine(n) when I was little those Goosebumps stuff was wasy scarier... I bet it's the movies...

18.♥ ♥ ♥ Witches abroad - Terry Pratchett (n)
19. ♥ ♥♥ My family and other animals - Gerald Durrell (r)
20. ♥ The Iron Oil Lamp - Dimitar Talev (n) I guess it's a very interesting if you want to explore the customs of people during the renaissance and the human psychology...

22. ♥ ♥ ♥ Lords and Ladies - Terry Pratchett (n)
23.♥♥ ♥ Mort - Terry Pratchett (n)
24.♥♥ ♥ Sphere - Miachael Crichton (n) I remember that the movie was so freaking creepy O.o Especially I recall one moment when the opened all the cupboards and they were all full of Twenty thousand leagues under the sea, and when they looked through the pages there was text only till the page -one of them don't remember who - have read the book. I have no idea why, but this totally creeped me out
25. ♥ ♥♥ Light Fantastic - Terry Pratchett (n)

35.♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ Tobacco - Dimitar Dimov (n) I think this is going to became my fav novel from a bulgarian author ^^
36. ♥ ♥ ♥♥ The amazing Maurice and his educated rodents - Terry Pratchett (n)

40.♥ ♥ ♥ The Lionheart brothers - Astrid Lindgren (r)
41.♥ ♥♥ ♥ The Last hero - Terry Pratchett (n)
42.♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ Cyrano de Bergerac - Edmond Rostand (n) I'm absolutely in LOVE with this story. Ever since I watched the movie for first time. It's still moving me to tears. I've been trying to find the book for years. This summer I read it in French and when later dad brought me Cyrano in bulgarain you just can't imagine how happy I was. He really searched a lot, good he's a real expert in book hunting and finally found a very old edition - it's almost like curio. At first I was just so happy for the book itself I didn't see that the book was signed from the translation Veselin Hantchev to Jean Coiffard who was back the first French ambassador in Bulgaria. It seems that the book was meant to him, but then they saw that some of the pages aren't cut properly, so they chose another one - at least this is my theory! Lol! It's so fascinating who old book have their own story - I have a lot of old book but often don't pay much attention where they come from because I'm moe interested in the story - maybe I ought to check it out, who knows what their stories could be, lol! Apart from this, the translation is really amazing, I loved some parts better thab the original - like the duel in the beginning and the very end too. But my most fav quote I still prefer in French:
DE GUICHE: Sur le chapitre des moulins !
CYRANO (saluant):
Chapitre treize.
. . CYRANO: Ou bien dans les étoiles !

43.♥ ♥ ♥ The Last Continent - Terry Pratchett (r)
44. ♥ ♥ ♥ Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban - J.K.Rowling - (r)
45. ♥ ♥ ♥ Night Watch - Sergey Lukyanenko (r)
46. ♥ ♥ ♥ Three funy friends - Eno Raud (r)
47. ♥ ♥ ♥ Jingo - Terry Pratchett (r)
48.♥ ♥♥ Wizard of Oz - L. Frank Baum (r)
49. ♥ ♥ ♥ Yordan Yovkov - Balkan Legends and other short novels (r)
50. ♥♥ Le pere Goriot - Honore de Balzac (n)
51.♥ ♥ ♥ Winnie the Pooh - A. Miln (r) When you're gloomy and feeling eeyore there is nothing better than this book to make you feel so pooh ^___^
52.♥ ♥ ♥ Laughing gas - P.G. Wodehouse (r)

This turned long, wow. 52 titles of them 34 new and the rest are rereadings. And I have the strange feeling I'm reading a little too much Pratchett... Nyah. there's no such thing as "too much Pratchett" ^w^
Now I'm planning to build a list of the books I want to read. It's gonna be a long one - so few book more or less won't hurt, lol, any recommendations?
In mid april I'll have to check my other task - 10 000 songs listened on last.fm. This goal turned possible as I'm almost there. Now I'm more curious who's gonna be on the top. Last monts Cobra Starship was able to keep the first place, but Agata is fighting back - they were once first! And most likely will regain their place as lately I can't stop listening to them Especially after I visited their oficcial site (where I discovered some songs, listened to remixes and of course, the originals are so much better); and after I saw this photo:

Now believe me, this is a decadence rock group with really deep lyrics. Never trust the bunnies.

And with absolutely (ok, just a little) realtion to everything - an awesome advice how to prevent reading inside of a dog:

Good thing it works for non English speaking dogs, I was worried about this point. So have a good Friday and weekend with lot of good books ^__^

That's a really cool idea about the reading list- I might steal it from you, at least to do on paper. Also, I'm glad about the dogs, too! I think the ones next door are more versed in French, so it's good to know they'll still know what I mean.

Dawn каза...

I wished I had more time to read!!
I guess I would if I could stop stitching for a hour or 2!! LOL
